Rowntree’s made Fruit Pastilles vegan in 2020, and M&S took the beeswax out of Percy Pigs two years later. Between those and a few other recipe changes, you can now fill a whole Halloween bowl in the UK with vegan sweets without going anywhere near a health food shop.
The catch is the sweets that look vegan and are not. Haribo Starmix, Jelly Babies and every single Squashie still have gelatine in them, and some of the Halloween specials sitting next to the vegan ones on the shelf are the worst offenders. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so you have a full evening of doorbells to plan for.

The Best Vegan Halloween Sweets in the UK
1. Skittles: The Easiest Bowl Filler There Is

Skittles are labelled vegan in the UK, colours and all, and they are glazed with carnauba wax, which comes from a palm leaf. The box of 18 fun-size bags is the least effort trick-or-treat option going: chewy, fruity, and no child has ever been disappointed to get a bag.
Skittles Chewies, the ones without the crunchy shell, are labelled vegan too. Skittles Gummies are a different product, so check which one you have picked up.
🛒 Tesco | 18 fun-size bags, £4
2. Starburst: Individually Wrapped and Gelatine-Free

British Starburst is gelatine-free and says vegan right on the pack. Every sweet comes in its own wrapper, which is ideal for a bowl that a lot of small hands are going to reach into. They are exactly as chewy as you remember from school.
This only applies to the UK version. American Starburst still has gelatine in it, so skip anything imported, and skip the mixed Skittles and Starburst Halloween tubs unless you have checked the label.
🛒 Tesco | 138g pouch, 99p
3. Swizzels: Love Hearts, Parma Violets and the Whole Sweet Shop

Most of what Swizzels makes is vegan: Love Hearts, Parma Violets, Refreshers, Drumstick lollies, Double Lollies and Fizzers. If you grew up in Britain, that is basically the penny sweet counter, and it is still the best value way to fill a bowl.
The mixed bags are the easy buy. Scrumptious Sweets and Luscious Lollies are both labelled vegan and cost £1.25 each. If you get a lot of trick-or-treaters, the 3kg party packs on the Swizzels shop will see you through. Everything contains soya. Squashies are the one Swizzels line that is not vegan.
🛒 Scrumptious Sweets at Tesco | Luscious Lollies at Tesco | Swizzels vegan range | £1.25 a bag, £18.99 for 3kg
4. Swizzels Monster Treats and Mummy Mix: The Halloween Bags

For something that actually looks like Halloween, Swizzels does two themed bags that are both vegan: Monster Treats (440g) and Mummy Mix (340g). Mummy Mix holds about 40 sweets, a mix of Refreshers, Fizzers, Parma Violets and Love Hearts, so it is the same favourites in spookier wrappers.
Do not grab the Swizzels Trick or Treat Lolly Mix by mistake. It sits right next to these on the shelf and it has gelatine in it, which surprises everyone, given how much of the Swizzels range is vegan.

💡 Tip: Both bags were already selling out online in late September, so buy early or pick up Monster Treats in store at Home Bargains.
5. Rowntree’s Jelly Tots and Fruit Pastilles

Jelly Tots are labelled vegan and people love them: soft, sugary little drops that disappear in handfuls. Fruit Pastilles went vegan in 2020, and the four-tube packs are perfect for a bowl because each tube is its own treat.
Some long-time Pastilles fans swear the chew changed when the recipe did. Children will not notice. Rowntree’s Randoms are the ones to avoid, because they are still made with pork gelatine.
🛒 Jelly Tots at Tesco | Fruit Pastilles tubes at Tesco | £1.50 each
6. Percy Pig: Vegan Since 2022

Percy Pig Fruit Gums are vegan. M&S swapped out the gelatine back in 2019 and removed the last of the beeswax in 2022, so the original pig faces are all yours. The bag is 100g, which is never enough.
The bag carries a may contain milk warning, so they are not for a child with a milk allergy. Percy’s seasonal spin-offs vary, so check the pack on anything other than the classic bag.
🛒 Ocado | 100g, £1.35
7. Haribo Rainbow Strips: The One Haribo You Can Buy

Haribo does have vegan sweets, and Rainbow Strips are the pick of them: long, soft strips in rainbow colours, labelled suitable for vegans. Pixels Z!ng and Balla Bites Z!ng are vegan too, if your trick-or-treaters like things sour.
All three carry a may contain milk warning. Everything else Haribo is a no, including Starmix, Tangfastics and the Halloween Bone Shakers, which are glazed with beeswax.
🛒 Rainbow Strips at Tesco | Pixels Z!ng at Tesco | £1.25 a bag
8. Moo Free Spooky Chums: Halloween Chocolate for Everyone

Moo Free’s Spooky Chums are little 15g bars of dairy-free chocolate, each wrapped with a ghost, pumpkin, witch or bat. They are made without dairy, gluten, nuts or soya in dedicated free-from factories, so parents of kids with allergies love them. They are the only Halloween chocolate on this list.
They cost more than a bag of Skittles, so I’d keep them for the kids you know or for your own party bags. For a cheaper chocolate option, NOMO’s dairy-free chocolate lollies are vegan and £2.15 for three at Tesco.
🛒 Moo Free | NOMO lollies at Tesco | £9.99 for 10 bars
9. Jammie Dodger Minis: For the House That Does Biscuits

Every street has one house that hands out biscuits, and Jammie Dodger Minis are labelled vegan and come in six little individually wrapped bags. Shortcake biscuits with a jam heart in the middle, and a nice change from sugar after the tenth house.
They contain wheat, so they are not for gluten-free kids. Party Rings and Oreos are sold as vegetarian with a may contain milk warning, so I’d stick with the Jammie Dodgers.
🛒 Tesco | 6 x 20g bags, £1.50
Before Pumpkins, There Were Turnips
Halloween started in Ireland and Scotland, from the Celtic festival of Samhain, and the first jack-o’-lanterns were carved from turnips. Pumpkins only took over after the tradition crossed to America.
In Scotland, children still go guising: they dress up and have to earn their sweets with a joke, a song or a poem at the door. Trick-or-treating in its American form is more recent. If you want to bring back the old way, ask for a joke before you open the bowl.
And the fireworks start early. Bonfire Night is five days later, on Thursday 5 November, so a lot of streets will already be popping by the time the trick-or-treaters are out.
The Ones That Catch People Out

- Swizzels Trick or Treat Lolly Mix: gelatine.

Vegan Halloween Sweets: What to Know Before You Buy
- Read for these words: gelatine, beeswax (E901), shellac (E904), carmine or cochineal (E120), milk, whey, egg and honey.
- May contain milk is an allergy warning. It means shared equipment, not an ingredient. Haribo’s vegan range and Percy Pigs carry it. Fine for vegans, but skip them for a child with a milk allergy.
- Recipes change. Everything here was checked in late September 2026, and the pack in your hand is always the final word.
- Prices are Tesco’s in late September 2026, before Clubcard discounts, unless another shop is named.
