Vegan Brighton

Brighton might actually be the vegan capital of the UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง From next-level junk food and mezze feasts to Japanese-inspired small plates and seaside fish and chips, this city seriously understands plant-based comfort food. Brighton has one of the most exciting, diverse, and genuinely excellent vegan restaurant scenes in the entire country โ€” and it’s growing year on year with ambitious new openings that keep raising the bar.

The vegan scene is spread across the city centre and the North Laine, with seaside spots and neighbourhood gems scattered throughout. Here’s my guide to the best.

Best Vegan Restaurants in Brighton

1. The No Catch Co โ€” Classic Seaside Vegan “Fish” & Chips

The No Catch Co on King’s Road, right on Brighton’s seafront, is one of the most brilliant and necessary restaurant concepts in the UK โ€” a fully vegan fish and chip shop that serves plant-based versions of all your seaside favourites without catching a single thing. The vegan “fish” (made from banana blossom) is genuinely convincing, the chips are perfect, and the location on the seafront makes the whole experience feel exactly right. A non-negotiable Brighton experience.

2. Purezza โ€” Fully Vegan Pizza Party

Purezza is the UK’s original 100% vegan pizza restaurant โ€” a sustainable, award-winning operation that has been setting the standard for plant-based pizza since its Brighton founding. The pizzas here are genuinely outstanding: proper Neapolitan-style bases, house-made vegan mozzarella, creative seasonal toppings, and gluten-free options available throughout the menu. Purezza has since expanded to London and Manchester, but Brighton remains the original and spiritual home. Booking recommended.

3. Bonsai โ€” Tokyo-Style Small Plates & Best Vegan Restaurant 2023โ€“25

Bonsai on Baker Street is one of Brighton’s most exciting and consistently awarded vegan restaurants โ€” winner of Best Vegan Restaurant at the Brighton Restaurant Awards in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The Tokyo-inspired menu features small plates cooked over charcoal, with beautiful Japanese flavours and techniques applied to seasonal British vegetables and plant-based proteins. The space is stylish and intimate, and the cocktail list is excellent. A must-book for serious food lovers in Brighton.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Bonsai is very popular โ€” book your table at least a week in advance for dinner.

Beelzebab at The Hope & Ruin pub on Queens Road has won Best Vegan Kebab at the British Kebab Awards 2023 โ€” and after one doner, it’s easy to understand why. The vegan doners, hot dogs, and loaded fries are all exceptional, the venue has a brilliant live music programme, and the whole experience perfectly captures Brighton’s irreverent, rock-and-roll spirit. Open late, dog-friendly, and genuinely fun.

The Round Hill Pub is one of Brighton’s most beloved plant-based pubs โ€” an award-winning neighbourhood pub that takes its vegan food as seriously as its beer selection. The Sunday roast is particularly renowned: a proper, generous, beautifully executed plant-based roast with all the trimmings that rivals anything you’d find in a traditional pub. A wonderful, convivial spot for a long, slow meal with good company.

The “Filthy” burger and the mac daddy fries are both legendary, and the whole operation has a fun, unapologetically indulgent energy that makes every visit feel like a treat. Also in Bristol and Brixton.

The dining room is beautiful, the cocktails are inventive, and the cooking consistently transcends the typical expectations of plant-based Asian food. A Brighton gem that rewards the journey.
